Yeah I know, that title is pretty long.
So its the penultimate day of the year, and I’m sure you’re seeing top 10 lists EVERYWHERE, and I know you’re probably sick of them. Luckily for you guys I try to put my own twist on things. So this will be a top 20 list of my favorite albums that came out in 2017 across multiple genres. Now let me be clear: I am in no way saying that these 20 albums are the best albums that came out this year, but these are the albums that I liked and returned to the most. The criteria that I mostly based this list off of was replay value. So basically, the number of spins I gave an album helped determine the albums placement on my list. Now that I’ve explained that, let’s get into it.
20. H.E.R. – H.E.R.
19. Still Striving – A$AP Ferg
18. About Time – Sabrina Claudio
17. Drunk – Thundercat
16. The 1st – Willow
15. Culture – Migos
14. SYRE – Jaden Smith
13. Playboi Carti – Playboi Carti
12. Take Me Apart – Kelela
11. SweetSexySavage – Kehlani
10. Fin – Syd
9. Freudian – Daniel Caesar
8. After Laughter – Paramore
7. Cozy Tapes Vol. 2: Too Cozy – A$AP Mob
6. Pretty Girls Like Trap Music – 2 Chainz
5. Asking Alexandria – Asking Alexandria
4. Big Fish Theory – Vince Staples
3. DAMN. – Kendrick Lamar
2. Ctrl – SZA
1. Scum Fuck Flower Boy – Tyler The Creator
And there you have it. This list was difficult to make because I listened to SO MUCH new music, but I also spent a large chunk of the year in a nostalgia pit listening to songs from 2009-2013. However it would seem that whenever I was listening to music from this year, it was mostly R&B-which makes sense because 2017 was a great year for the genre. In addition to the aforementioned albums we had a steady stream of singles from Frank Ocean, and a great Miguel record. I’m interested to see what genre occupies my soundscape in the upcoming year.
